Peppadews incoming!

I hate getting to the end of the day and feeling that I have achieved nothing, so on Wednesday I fought my way through the lurgy (a quite nasty cough/cold) that my wife and daughter have very generously shared with me so at least I had some reason to feel positive this evening.

One important thing to get done was to pick all the fruit off the Malawi Piquante chiles. It’s claimed that they’re the same variety as is used to make Peppadew peppers, which I adore. Sadly very few ripened fully, but they’re a bit of a pig to grow here because we’re on a relatively exposed site and they need a long season.

Fortunately I discovered last year that they also taste very pleasant when green, so I’ll be making a sweet pickle for them in the next few days as I’ve just opened our final jar.
I’ve also fed all the cut tomato stems from the plants I cleared over the weekend through the shredder and ended up with two trugs of shredded material to add to the compost heap.
