Jupiter 2011/2012

These are my three favourite images from 2011, all taken on the morning of 10th October 2011 from my home near the eastern edge of Exmoor in the south west of the UK.

These images were all captured using SharpCap using a Philips SPC880 webcam flashed with the SPC900 firmware using a Skywatcher 127 Mak and then post-processed in Registax 6. I’ve done no colour adjustment otherwise, just used GIMP to crop the images down.

First, an unbarlowed image:

The capture settings used for this were:

Frame Rate (fps)=10.00
Colour Space / Compression=I420
Exposure=-4
Brightness=85
Contrast=32
Saturation=0
Gamma=0
ColorEnable=255
BacklightCompensation=0
Gain=41

Next, my favourite of the bunch, using a Celestron Ultima 2x barlow:

Capture settings for this:

Frame Rate (fps)=10.00
Colour Space / Compression=I420
Exposure=-4
Brightness=85
Contrast=32
Saturation=0
Gamma=0
ColorEnable=255
BacklightCompensation=0
Gain=29

And finally, using a TeleVue 3x barlow (which may actually be in need of a bit of a clean). Unfortunately the focus is a bit soft on this one:

Capture settings this time:

Frame Rate (fps)=15.00
Colour Space / Compression=I420
Exposure=-4
Brightness=85
Contrast=32
Saturation=0
Gamma=0
ColorEnable=255
BacklightCompensation=0
Gain=10
