I started (attempting) to save seeds from my pepper plants today. I’ve not had much success using bits of stocking to isolate the flowers and prevent cross-pollination, so I ordered some drawstring mesh bags to try instead.

Once I’d identified a shoot with flowers close to opening, I removed any large leaves that would get in the way and slipped the bag over the end of the shoot, pulling the neck closed around the stem.

Now it’s just a case of waiting to see if the flowers set fruit. At that point I can remove the bag and I’ll mark the fruit by putting a tie around its stem.
