Potato picking day! Given the hot dry weather my potatoes clearly weren’t going to progress much further, so I decided it was time to lift them all. I even sorted them into sacks straight away — most organised for me. The final harvest was about two thirds of a sack of “small” tubers, two medium and one large (suitable for chips etc.). I also have another sack of tubers with “recoverable” amounts of green showing, by which I mean that I’d lose less than half the potato if I cut off the green part with a generous amount to spare.

I also collected about half a bucket of “excessively green” or damaged tubers. Those will be saved and replanted in the fullness of time.

All in all I think we’ve probably had about 100kg of potatoes from the one bed, which I’m quite happy with.
