I’ve been quite shocked seeing coverage of the wildfires currently burning in France and Spain. I can’t even begin to envisage what the evacuation of a third of a million people must be like. It’s also a little discomforting to think that the northernmost (and probably worst) of the fires is actually only around 450 miles south of my own home. In terms of weather systems that really doesn’t feel very far at all.
But, and perhaps this is the most important issue, I wonder how many people affected either because they live in the general area (which will presumably number in the millions by now) or because they’re in positions of authority will now be saying to themselves “It’s time we really started to take climate change properly seriously”?
