No dig diary, 20th June 2026

The most important goal of the day today was to get the garlic lifted. It’s been a very humid day and there wasn’t much pleasure in being in the polytunnel, but eventually I got all the plants into a wheelbarrow

And from there it went onto a mesh over one of the (almost) empty compost heaps to dry.

As I was already feeling somewhat dehydrated I decided that I might as well return to the polytunnel and plant out a handful of cucumbers.

That done, I planted out six squashes amongst the sweetcorn plants. I don’t know what all of these are, so it will be fun finding out 😀 It would be nice if one was Crown Prince as I didn’t do a second sowing of those as I had no more seeds.

Staying outside, I weeded my carrot bad. Carrots have been something of a disappointment so far this year. I sowed about eight rows and this is all that germinated.

So having weeded, I sowed again. I’ll try to water them regularly this time.

Once the heat had died down a bit I got back into the polytunnel (and in fact the polycrub) to sideshoot the tomato plants and check they were properly supported by their strings.
