No dig diary, 23rd June 2021

After a few miserable days I got out in the garden today and planted out Romanesco cauliflower under my brassica netting. They should have gone out a couple of weeks back probably, but I wasn’t able to do so at the time.

I’ve also lifted some of the cut calabrese plants to make room for more brassicas.

During the cold and wet period in April and May I sowed lettuces that struggled to germinate, but those that did are also now planted out alongside my second planting of peas (which are really not doing well either, also having suffered in the cold).

I’m seriously thinking about planting out my leeks in some spare spaces now. Hopefully I’ll be starting to create space in various places as I harvest crops from the first half of the year (first early potatoes and garlic, for example).
