Swimming, 30th October 2018

Both my children wanted to go to the pool with me today and there was also an unannounced life guard training session in the pool so it was a little cramped. Another swimmer also wanted to lane-swim and between the four of us we ended up sharing two lanes. I was back for another attempt at my current set:

400m front crawl warm-up
25 x 50m front crawl, target time 51s, rest interval 24s
200m front crawl swim down

During the warm-up my arms really felt quite tired and the increasing choppiness of the water from being so close to other swimmers made things harder work so I really wasn’t convinced that I stood a chance of completing the set today. From the first rep I was clearly slower than yesterday, but I had a couple of seconds in hand over the target time so I didn’t get too concerned until I started dropping into the 50s at about halfway. By the time I’d completed the 20th rep I was still on target and desperate to swim out the set. The last two reps were very tough, but putting everything I had into the last one I made it with seconds to spare.

So, exhausted but pleased, I move on once again. The target time for the next set will drop to 50s and 25s rest interval. That genuinely is going to be tough.

USRPT distance this year: 71,900m
Total distance this year: 169,400m
