A new box for honey jars
Now I have the laser cutter, I thought I could make a better box for displaying and transporting jars of honey. Then I found the “laser cut interlocking” plugin for FreeCAD and I was away! This is my first attempt.
My first home-made foundation
I reckon it looks pretty good. A fair bit thicker than the stuff you buy, but perhaps I can improve on that over time. And in fact this will probably get cut into starter strips anyhow.
Meet my new DIY swarm collection box
I’ve used cardboard boxes for years. They do the job, but they’re not exactly very tolerant of the occasional rain shower and if I’ve not used one for a while it seems to disappear to be used for other purposes. … Continue reading
Honey shipping boxes
I needed some boxes for shipping jars of honey in the post and wasn’t really confident that just cardboard would do the job. So I made these to contain bubble-wrapped jars instead.
More clearer boards incoming
I needed some more clearer boards. It’s tempting to stack all the supers in an apiary together to clear them, but in some cases I just don’t have the space (or anywhere remotely level), so I needed some more clearer … Continue reading
New honey labels
Rather than using pre-printed labels for my jars of honey as sold by the likes of Thorne’s I wanted something a little more special. Something unique to me and that tells a little bit of a story about the contents … Continue reading
Unrecognised beekeeping kit
I found these in a pile of old kit that was given to me. Really not sure what they are. Best I can come up with is that they might be travel screens, but they seem a little over-engineered for … Continue reading

Spring honey vs. Summer honey
Same hive, same location, just harvested a few weeks apart…
DIY foundation
I have plenty of recovered beeswax sitting around, but conversion rates to exchange it for foundation seem pretty poor. I’m also given to understand that much of the foundation sold in the UK is produced from imported wax, so who … Continue reading
DIY Demaree board
Very simple this, but Demaree is a method of swarm control that I’d like to try more of in the future. The underside of the board has a rim to allow for a beespace and a 100mm-ish hole in the … Continue reading
