After doing my best to completely cripple myself when I fell over the other day, I spent a while the following day weeding around some of our tomatoes and peppers, because I can do that sitting down.
My mind was rambling, which is asking for trouble in this weather, and for some reason alighted on the subject of competitions for growing huge vegetables. It’s something that has never buttered my parsnips. Perhaps it’s all something to do with polytunnel size envy. There are two main reasons that I grow my own fruit and vegetables: they almost always taste much better than the industrially-produced equivalent and I know the provenance. I’ll not deny of course that it gives me the opportunity to hide out in the garden whenever I want 😀 Producing a carrot the size of my dibber however just doesn’t pickle my onions.
In the interests of balance I think people should be encouraged to exhibit their smallest fruit and vegetables (no laughing at the back, there). I’m going to kick things off with my three smallest tomatoes.
