Will you get a load of the cayennes on that?!
Some time in September I try to sow lots of lettuces, mustards and other salad leaves that I then plant out in the polytunnel, ideally the day after I remove the tomato and pepper plants. The plan is that whilst they’ll only grow slowly in Winter there should be sufficient to provide salads until early in Spring, but it really needs to be done by mid-September otherwise there’s just not enough light for the seedlings to turn into decent size plants.
Sadly, because my body is presently spending a significant amount of time out beyond the orbit of Pluto, there has been what we in the trade politely describe as “a bloody enormous cock-up”: the sowing bit just didn’t get done.
I have a cunning plan however. It may even be a plan so cunning that you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel. I’m going to sow the seed now, but under a grow light, something I haven’t had in previous years. The space under the grow light (which is not in use right now) is occupied by pepper plants, so the first job was to shuffle them elsewhere.
Whilst doing that this afternoon, I discovered these absolute animals hidden in the foliage. They are definitely cayennes. I’ve not grown anything else that might be confused with them. I’m now hoping they’ll ripen before the weather gets too cold.

For comparison I here’s a photo of a “normal” cayenne on a plant in the same greenhouse.
